Province 3 will get its name and capital within a week.
Secretariat meeting of the ruling CPN on Sunday has decided to name the province Bagmati and make Hetauda of Makwanpur the capital, a secretariat member confided with Setopati."Province 3 will now get a permanent capital. We have instructed the provincial capital to make Hetauda the capital and name the province Bagmati," the secretariat member added.
Chief Minister (CM) of the province Dor Mani Paudel confirmed that and claimed the name and capital will be announced by January 5.
"Decision has been made to name it Bagmati and make Hetauda the capital," CM Paudel told Setopati. "But party decision alone does not suffice. The provincial assembly should endorse it."
He revealed that the provincial assembly will be convened within a week. "We will decide the name and capital through the assembly," he added.
CPN has a two-third majority in Province 3 with 80 lawmkers in the 110-strong provincial assembly, and the party's decision looks set to be endorsed.
The then Sher Bahadur Deuba government had named temporary provincial capitals before the general election two years ago. Hetauda was made the temporary capital of Province 2 then.
There were talks about changing the capital pointing that Hetauda is at one edge of the province and is far from many districts in the province but CPN has stayed with Hetauda.
Far West, Karnali and Gandaki provinces have already decided on the names and capitals but Province 1, 2, 3 and 5 have yet to do so.
