The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has suspended Under Secretary Suman Kumar Karki for not reporting to the place he was transferred by the ministry.
The ministry had transferred Karki, who was administrative officer in Gaur municipality, to Shailyashikhar municipality in Darchula on May 15 but he did not report to Darchula, according to a letter signed by Secretary at the ministry Yadav Prasad Koirala.
Karki has been suspended for two months on Friday after he did not go to the place even 21 days after the transfer, and ignored written and verbal ultimatum to report within three days. "You have been suspended for two months for investigation as per the Civil Service Act as you have been working at Gaur instead of reporting to the place you have been transferred and the ministry has received several complaints against you," the letter, that has also been copied to Gaur municipality, reads.
Mayor of Gaur Ajay Kumar Gupta, however, told Setopati that the municipality has yet to receive the suspension letter. "I don't know why administrative officer has been transferred toward the end of fiscal year," Gupta said. "I have heard that he has been suspended but the letter has yet to arrive."
He revealed that the ministry had transferred the administrative officer repeatedly in the past but the municipality had stopped it. "The ministry has done this to put the municipality in a difficult position. Is this a time to transfer administrative officer?" he asked Setopati. "The ministry has transferred Suman Karki six times including this. The ministry had amended the transfer on five occasions."
