Secretariat meeting of the ruling CPN has started at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday to discuss division of responsibilities among the central members and appointment of incharge and deputy incharge of districts.
CPN Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the meeting will resume from the point at which it was stopped on Tuesday.
The meeting on Tuesday was unable to conclude division of responsibilities after Chairman KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal differed on the issue of providing dual responsibilities to leaders.
Senior leaders Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Bam Dev Gautam are firm that those who are ministers, lawmakers and elected local representatives should not be given another responsibility.
Prime Minister (PM) Oli, General Secretary Bishnu Paudel and Ishwore Pokharel say providing party responsibility to such leaders will not make any difference.
Leaders from the erstwhile CPN (Maoist Center) were almost silent during the secretariat meeting on Tuesday after the leaders from the former CPN-UML differed on the issue.
Leaders say a middle way agreeable to both the sides would be sought on Wednesday.
Chairmen Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Paudel and senior leader Nepal had also met at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar earlier on Tuesday to decide about department heads. But the four leaders could not forge consensus about the department heads.
CPN has not been able to decide about leadership of different departments including organization, finance, publicity and party school with multiple leaders wishing for single position. The party also has yet to form the politburo.
