Top security sources claimed that the armed cadres of CPN led by Netra Bikram Chand have fled toward Sankhuwasabha after going to attack the police post in Chheska, Solukhumbu Sunday night.
The armed cadres stayed at the evacuated police post in Chheska of Mahakulung rural municipality 3 for three hours and moved toward Sankhuwasabha before dawn, according to a source at the Nepal Police headquarters.
A joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Office (APF) is currently looking for the Maoist cadres in Mahakulung rural municipality.
Nepal Police have yet to provide official information about the attempted attack by Chand's cadres at the police post and its evacuation. Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Bishwo Raj Pokharel said there were no attempts to attack the police post and the post has not been shifted.
Province 1 Police has also refused to provide information with chief of the provincial police Kedar Rijal not taking phone calls.
Locals say armed Maoist cadres have been active in Mahakulung especially in Nurkum in ward No 5 for the past one month. There is no police post in Nurkum.
Chairman of Mahakulung Sagar Kiranti told Setopati that security persons are patrolling Nurkum after activities of Chand's cadres. "APF and police are conducting patrols but no one has been arrested yet," Kiranti stated.
He said there are reportedly around 30 armed Maoist cadres in the rural municipality. Those armed cadres may have gone to attack the post in Chheska which is 75 kilometers away from district headquarters Salleri. The post was already evacuated due to threats of the attack.
