CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said he don't even want to imagine that Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli will not quit the position for him after two and a half years and warned that Oli will be finished if he dishonors the agreement.
"As you have seen, I have been doing my best to protect PM during god and bad times," Dahal said during an interview with journalist Rishi Dhamala. "I, therefore, don't even want to imagine that PM will not quit when he completes two and half years. We have an agreement and I am working with confidence that it will move forward as per the agreement."
Dahal warned that Oli will face difficulties if the latter does not honor the agreement and pave the way for him to become PM. "I firmly believe anyone deviating from that agreement will not survive. I will also not survive if I try to do so. The other person also will not, if he tries to do so," he stated.
Dahal's statement comes mid-way through the agreed 30-month term of Oli and there are rumors that Dahal, and senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bam Dev Gautam, and Narayan Kaji Shrestha have already reached agreement to replace Oli with Dahal at the helm of the government.
Dahal was also reluctant to commit that Oli will be give a five-year term if Dahal were made the sole chairman after the general convention of unification. "That is not right. It is some part of truth but not the whole truth," Dahal replied when asked if Oli would get to rule for five years if he were made the sole chairman.
"It is not that Oli will become PM for five years merely by making me chairman in the general convention for unification. But if there is good governance and we inject pace in development as the people wish, and everything is decided on consensus during the general convention, Oli can become PM for five years."
