CPN Chairman and former prime minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has assured the storm victims in Bara and Parsa districts that he will help the families of deceased persons get Rs 500,000 each in compensation.
Dahal, who reached Pheta on Tuesday, said he has been discussing the issue with PM KP Sharma Oli. "I hereby announce to help the families of deceased get Rs 500,000," Dahal stated. "The government will reconstruct all the destroyed houses. The government will also pay for the treatment of injured persons and compensate for the destroyed crops."
The Province 2 government on Monday had decided to give Rs 300,000 to the family of each victim.
The Cabinet meeting Monday evening did not take any decision about compensation and relief for the relief victims.
A total of 27 persons were killed and hundreds injured in Bara and Parsa districts due to the storm Sunday night.
