Nepali communist leaders have formed a committee to commemorate the birth anniversary of late North Korean leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.
The committee formed under general secretary of the CPN-ML and former deputy prime minister CP Mainali will organize different programs to mark the birth anniversary of the late North Korean leaders.
"There are some eight to nine organizations working on North Korea in Nepal. A committee was formed under my leadership to mark the birth anniversary of two leaders," Mainali told Setopati, "We will hold discourses, seminars, conferences and programs on those leaders. One of the programs has already been held. There's another program scheduled for Monday in our party office."
Kim Il-sung, who was born on April 15, 1912, is the grandfather of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. North Koreans describe the day of his birth as 'The Day of the Sun.' Similarly, the day of Kim Jong-Il's birth on February 16, 1941 was described as 'The Day of the Shining Star.'
Former DPM Mainali informed that various programs will be organized on these days by the committee. The embassy of North Korea in Kathmandu will also hold a reception.
When asked whether it is appropriate for a former DPM to lead any committee to mark the birth anniversary of any foreign leader, Mainali clarified that it won't make any difference as Nepal and North Korea share diplomatic relations.
"I am the chairperson of the Nepal-North Korea Friendship Association since 1995. Nepal and North Korea share the government-level relation since 1975. We also share the relation at the people's level." Mainali said, "What's wrong if I lead any committee to mark birth anniversary of the leaders of the country with which Nepal shares diplomatic relations!"
