Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota has assured of ensuring access of people of far remote areas to advanced communications and technology.
Inaugurating the 25th Subisu CAN Infotech', a IT fair organized by the Computer Association of Nepal ( CAN) Federation amidst a program here Tuesday, the minister pledged to expand IT public access so that rural people also could use it.
"The government wishes to expand the IT access among those families where monthly 2,000 elderly allowance means a lot of support for them. Government needs support and cooperation from every quarter to materialize its vision for the IT expansion."
According to him, the incumbent government sits on a strong foundation and policy-level decision and budget for the same can be managed.
Stating that development and extension of IT and escalation of its access was the priority of the government as it dreamt of building 'digital Nepal', the communications minister was of the view of making multidimensional development and issue of IT practical, accessible, affordable and connecting it to the efforts of attaining nation's economic prosperity.
"The use of IT is expected to work as a tool of putting people's daily life at ease. "
On a different note, the minister said the government would launch its own satellite and a 'security printing' for the expansions and extension of technology. He went on to say that the government was excited to build and promote the investment-friendly atmosphere and it would work with an open heart to make policy-level reforms towards that end. He utilized the moment to call on business community to maintain transparency in their business.
Vice president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Umesh Lal Shrestha urged the government to increase its government for the development and promotion of IT.
Nepal Chamber of Commerce vice president Rajendra Malla highlighted the need of public-private partnership so as to connect remote areas with IT network. Subisu Internet Pvt Ltd president Sudhir Parajuli and e-Sewa chief operations officer Roshan Lamichhane were of the view of attracting youth generations to IT and creating employment opportunities.
CAN Federation president Hemant Kumar Chaurasiya promised the organizational support to make the government concept of 'digital transformation' happen.
The CAN Infotech kicked off at Bhrikutimandap-based Exhibition Hall has showcased a total of 175 stalls related to new IT devices. The entry fee to the six-day event is Rs 100 (general people) per head and students get 50 percent discount on it while there is no concession on this fee during the 'business day' on Jan 30.
The visitors will get an opportunity to test their luck in bumper lucky draw which offers two pairs to two-night stay visit to two foreign destinations- Bali of Indonesia and Bangkok of Thailand. The event is supported by e-Sewa. The five-day robot battle competition is the special attraction of the event.
