The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has lodged corruption case against three including former Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) governor Tilak Rawal in the case of printing polymer currency notes of Rs 10 denomination on Thursday.
The constitutional anti-graft body has lodged corruption case of Rs 9,109,889 each against the then governor Rawal, chief of currency management department of NRB Upendra Keshari Paudyal, and local agent of Australian company May Flower Limited Himalaya Bahadur Pandey with the Special Court.
The Australian company was awarded the contract for printing 50 million sets of polymer notes of Rs 10 denomination.
The CIAA has accused the trio of harming the NRB by making it pay an unfair price for printing the currency notes. It has claimed that information was leaked to the company even before the bids were invited. It has also added that media persons were sent on a junket to Australia via Malaysia to ensure that the lapses in the bidding process were not reported in the media.
"We have filed a charge-sheet at the Special Court, Kathmandu today demanding the following claims from the office-bearers and individual listed below as the fact that they committed the offense of harming the Nepal Rastra Bank by making it pay an unnatural price and gaining personal benefits," the CIAA has said issuing a press statement on Thursday.
