The dispute about provincial committee members of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has recurred.
Leaders had claimed to have resolved the dispute after the secretariat meeting on November 28. The meeting had reportedly agreed to nominate some members in place of others. But the party has yet to make the names public.
A secretariat member told Setopati that the lists for provinces 1, 2 and 3 have already been finalized but those of the remaining provinces have yet to be finalized. The secretariat member said senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has stopped announcement of the names claiming that a few persons included by the secretariat do not meet the criteria.
The two chairmen have been handed over the responsibility of finalizing the names after dissatisfaction of Nepal. "A few names that had to be removed and added were jotted down on a piece of paper. The chairman duo will once again go through those names and finalize them," the secretariat member added.
The secretariat meeting on September 21 had concluded the names of provincial incharges-deputy incharges and chairmen-deputy chairmen. Leader Nepal was outside the country then and expressed displeasure at the appointments made in his absence.
Provincial committees have not been formed almost three months after appointment of provincial chairmen and incharges. "They are busy in the Asia Pacific Summit and do not have time," the secretariat member expressed frustration. "We don't know when they will finalize the names."
CPN has not been able to form district committees and sister organizations more than six months after announcement of unification.
