Former chief justice (CJ) Kedar Giri, whose bench dissolved the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) formed during the direct rule of the then king Gyanendra, has passed away on Friday.
Giri, 78, who was admitted at Norvic International Airport a few weeks ago, died of chest infection, according to family sources. He was shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at the hospital seven days ago after his condition of asthma worsened.
He served as CJ from October 5, 2007 till May 7, 2009. The bench of Giri, Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Anup Raj Sharma revoked the RCCC in November, 2005. Giri was the senior most justice in the bench.
He is survived by two wives, one daughter and four sons.
