Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has downplayed the recent war of words with senior Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Addressing the media at the Tribhuvan International Airport on return from his America visit for the UN General Assembly on Thursday, he urged everyone to not worry about that. "I have been a friend with him since 2029 BS (1972). I urge you to rest assured and not worry," PM Oli said.
Starting with a Nepali song calling the boatman to prevent the country from drowning on the last day of the budget session of the House of Representatives (HoR) last Thursday, third-ranked leader Nepal had pointed that the government has failed on the issues from punishing rapists to good governance.
PM Oli, who was in America then, responded to Nepal's comments from abroad calling them expression of frustration. "It is normal for someone with a poet's heart to remember an old song in a poetic manner. There is no use getting stuck on that," Oli quipped.
He claimed that party unification will soon be completed even at the lower level. "They said there will be no electoral alliance last year. They then said there will be no unification. They now point that there is no unification at the lower level. You wait and see, unification will be completed even at the lower levels," he added.
He also defended the government and complained that his seven-month-old government is being criticized as if it has created all the problems. "I want to ask the friends who criticize the government if Nepal became poor in seven months. Were our roads broad and blacktopped before that?" he asked. "Some friends derive satisfaction in slamming others."
