Leader of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) and former prime minister (PM) Madhav Kumar Nepal has slammed the government saying his head bows in shame due to its abysmal performance.
"People have given up saying every government is same. They want to see work, results," Nepal said speaking on the last day of the budget session of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Thursday. "The government is being mocked everywhere. We should feel pain."
Starting with a Nepali song calling the boatman to prevent the country from drowning, he pointed that the government has failed on the issues from punishing rapists to good governance. "The murderers of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur have not been identified yet. Acid is being poured on girls in places including Rautahat daily. I want to draw the government's attention to punish those involved in these incidents," he said.
Pointing at some controversial appointments made by the government, he said his head bows in shame due to promotion of persons the whole world knows as corrupt. "We cannot walk on the road after hearing this. People may cover their ears in this way while travelling in buses," he stated putting his hands over ears.
He claimed the government has not been able to do quality development works. "A song has been composed on the Chabahil-Sankhu road. I have gone to watch that road four times. They apparently pour five trucks of stones overnight after knowing that I am visiting. Where does the minister go to hide when the people suffer so much?
Where do the secretary and director general go?" he asked.
He also slammed the decision to award a new contract to the controversial Pappu Construction. "People want quality work. But those in the blacklist are awarded here," he fumed.
He also asked whether Home Ministry is aware about the secessionist activities in the plains challenging territorial integrity of the country. "We don't know where Home Minister is when all this is happening in the country. Mother nature has provided you with two ears. Have you heard or not?" he questioned Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa who was in attendance. "We cannot support if you don't do good deeds."
He said the issue of cutting trees for Nijgadh International Airport has created dispute within CPN. "I have heard that the reported number of trees will not be cut. But it seems that there is an effort to also serve one's own interest while doing a good work," he expressed doubt. "The height of the trees to be cut should be decided. Smaller trees need not be cut."
Deputy parliamentary party leader of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, speaking after Nepal, said he has seen the first criticism of the government by a leader of ruling party in his parliamentary career of almost three decades. "Leader Nepal has already said many things. We support his views," he stated.
Another opposition leader Rajendra Mahato of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal also expressed support for Nepal's views.
