The first federal parliamentary election after the promulgation of new constitution has already elected 62 new faces even as results in over 10 of the 165 constituencies have yet to arrive.
CPN-UML, which looks set to become the largest party, has got 36 new faces elected for the parliament. Similarly, 11 from CPN (Maoist Center), seven from Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN), four from Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP), three from Nepali Congress (NC) and one from RPP have also been elected to the parliament for the first time.
But just two of the 62 first-timers are women. Pavitra Niraula of UML, who has been elected from Jhapa, and Beena Magar from Maoist Cente, who has been elected from Kanchanpur, are the only female debutant.
There are more new faces this time as many established leaders of NC have been defeated due to the wave of left alliance while many leaders who were lawmakers earlier have opted to contest provincial assembly elections to lead the provincial governments.
