The final rites of Nepali mountain biker Narayan Gopal Maharjan, who was drowned on June 14 after falling into the River at Kudo Oya, 230 kilometers south-east of the capital Colombo during an international competition in Sri Lanka, was performed on Thursday. His body was brought home on Wednesday evening. His mortal remains are now placed at National Sports Council, Tripureshowr for paying final tributes. 33-year-old Maharjan, who had started to play for Nepal from June 6, 2005 in Mountain Bike Cross Country Championship, had won 14 gold medals, 13 silver, and 12 bronze in various national and international competitions. The competition 'Rumble in the Jungle' organized by Sri Lankan Airlines from June 9 to 15 witnessed the participation of some 39 countries including Nepal and India, among others. Maharjan was accompanied by two others Nepalis-- Ajay Pandit Chhetri and Buddhi Bahadur Tamang-- in the competition.
