The Department of Immigration has urged tourists to refrain from trekking for three days, citing an increased risk of heavy snowfall, snowstorms, and avalanches in Nepal’s high hilly and mountainous regions.
The department issued the advisory, citing information from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) that highlighted a high risk of heavy snowfall, blizzards, and avalanches in high hilly and mountainous regions from October 29 to 31.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, the Department of Immigration urged tourists not to trek in restricted areas of the high hills and mountains during the three-day period. Tourists who have already embarked on treks in these regions have been advised to remain in safe locations.
According to the department, trekking permits for restricted areas will not be issued during this period as a precautionary measure to minimize risks. The notice states that the measure takes effect immediately.
The department has also urged trekking agencies, trekkers, guides, and all relevant stakeholders to comply with and ensure implementation of the notice.
In the notice issued on Tuesday, Department of Immigration Director Surya Prasad Chapagain also urged everyone to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves against potential natural hazards.
