A landslide carrying mud and debris has occurred at the landfill site where waste from the Kathmandu Valley is disposed of.
The landslide has disrupted waste collection and transportation, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City said.
According to the metropolitan city, mud and soil have been sliding down from above the landfill site due to continuous rainfall, making it difficult to transport and dispose of waste.
The city has said that waste collection and transportation may be affected for some time and urged residents, homeowners, and businesses not to dump waste from their homes, shops, or premises on roads, at intersections, in public places, or in rivers and drainage channels.
Until regular waste collection resumes, the metropolitan city has requested residents to keep their waste safely within their homes or premises as far as possible and to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste for proper management.
The city has urged people to take extra care, warning that dumping waste on roads and in public places could obstruct traffic and also impede the drainage of rainwater.
The metropolitan city said that waste collection and transportation services will return to normal once rainfall subsides and conditions at the landfill site improve.
