Police have detained two women who had gone to stage a protest outside the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
Binu Yadav and Niharika Rajput were detained by police for protesting in a prohibited area, according to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
SP Bhattarai said that both women had arrived wearing black clothes to protest just as Prime Minister Balendra Shah's motorcade was scheduled to pass.
Yadav has been staging protests, demanding action against police officers involved in weakening the investigation by allegedly trying to settle a rape case.
Rajput has also been agitating, accusing her husband of physical assault and torture. She says she wants to bring the matter to the government’s attention.
Both women had previously demonstrated in front of Singha Durbar, demanding a meeting with Home Minister Sudan Gurung.
