The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is launching a nighttime bus service starting Tuesday.
Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol announced via social media that the buses will operate on two specific routes.
In collaboration with Sajha Yatayat, the buses will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. One route connects Budhanilkantha to Lagankhel, and another route connects the airport to Thankot.
Acting Mayor Dangol said that buses will be available every 20 minutes on these routes.
According to the KMC, a municipal police officer will be stationed on each bus to ensure passenger safety.
The service will initially launch with seven buses. Each vehicle will be equipped with four CCTV cameras: one covering the front, one monitoring the driver, and two monitoring the passengers.
These cameras can be monitored from a control room, allowing passengers to recover lost items and ensuring immediate intervention in case of any attempted harassment or misconduct.
The KMC is launching the bus service in collaboration with the Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chandragiri Municipality, and Budhanilkantha Municipality.
