The Gurung community celebrated the Tamu Lhosar festival on Tuesday by bidding farewell to the year gone by and welcoming a new one.
On Tuesday, community organized a procession accompanied by music and dance, starting from the Basantapur Durbar Square area in Kathmandu. Gurung people dressed in traditional and cultural attire took part in the procession.
After the procession reached Tundikhel, the Lhosar Festival began. Prime Minister Sushila Karki also attended the event.
The term Lhosar is derived from "Lho," meaning "year," and "Sar," meaning "to change." Therefore, the day the year changes is called Tamu Lhosar. The Gurung community celebrates this occasion as their new year in a grand manner.
The government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday for Tamu Lhosar.
