Former secretary Arjun Karki found the body of domestic help Bijay Chaudhary near the staircase by the kitchen when he entered his house at around 11 Monday morning.
There was a snapped plastic rope near the staircase while half of the rope was around Chaudhary's neck.
There was a pool of blood flowing out of the kitchen door. His wife Muna Karki was unconscious in the pool of blood with blood oozing out of her head when he went inside the kitchen.
He immediately called the police.
Muna was taken to Star Hosiptal nearby where she was declared dead on arrival.
The police team that reached the crime scene says Chaudhary, 21, may have killed Muna, 49, and then committed suicide.
DSP with Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur Santosh Tamang, who reached the spot, told Setopati that Muna's head seems to have been smashed on the floor multiple times. "We found a plastic parka (plank to sit on) smashed into pieces. No other weapon seems to have been used," DSP Tamang added.
Chaudhary from Dang seems to have hanged himself near on the staircase railing near the dining table outside the kitchen. "The body was on the floor as the rope seems to have snapped," Tamang added.
There was no one else in the house after their son left for school. Karki had left for Pashupatinath Temple earlier in the morning.
Chaudhary was dead with blood in his hands while Muna's body was warm. She was taken to the hospital where she was declared dead.
"It does not seem that anyone else came inside. We can say Chaudhary may have killed her as his hands were covered with blood," Tamang reasoned.
Police say Chaudhary may have first hit Muna with the plastic parka and then repeatedly smashed her head on the floor.
Chaudhary was working at the Karki residence for the past six years. Tamang added that the police cannot say whether they had any past animosity now. "We have received preliminary information that there was no animosity."
Police say Chaudhary may have killed Muna in rage after a minor tiff.
The Karkis have two daughters, who are both abroad, and an 11-year-old son who had gone to school at the time.
A forensic team from the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital has already reached the spot for investigation while the bodies have been sent for autopsy.
