Around 1,655 of 7,335 families in Chitwan whose houses were damaged in the Gorkha Earthquake some four years ago were yet to build back their houses.
The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) had provided Rs 200,000 to buy land for building houses to those not having their own land but those beneficiaries have no touch base with the concerned authorities as they say that with that hand-out money, they could not buy land.
According to Engineer Sujan Nepal at District Project Implementation Unit, Chitwan, not a single beneficiary has come to his office.
Altogether 100 quake-survivors whose house sustained complete damages in the 7.6 magnitude quake on April 25, 2015 have received Rs 50,000 as the first installment of grant while 3,588 families have received the second tranche of grant.
The government has been providing Rs 300,000 as a grant to those whose houses were completely damaged by the Gorkha Earthquake.
Engineer Nepal shared that those living in public land or forest area had not contacted the concerned office to pass the design of new houses.
According to him, many of them were residing in quake-damaged houses after renovating themselves while some have chosen to make cowshed their home.
Earlier they were staying in a big land but in the aftermath of receiving grant, they could not purchase the land.
Furthermore, they don't show any interest in shifting to a remote place where they could buy small piece of land and resettle, argued Nepal.
Altogether 1,878 houses were built so far for quake-survivors in Chitwan in aid of the District Project Implementation Unit.
