The Gandaki Province government has decided to develop three hospitals in its three districts as 'Highway Trauma Mobile Hospitals' which would immediately provide medical services to the injured ones in road accidents in Highways.
In the aftermath of around 2,000 people losing their lives while 4,000 critically being injured in road accidents in Nepal annually of late, the Gandaki Province government's move aims to make Gandaki Province's roads free of deaths in road accidents.
In the first phase, Damauli Hospital at Tanahu, Primary Health Post at Waling, Syangja and Tilar Health Center at Dimuwa, Parbat would be developed into mobile hospitals, according to Information Officer at the Ministry of Social Development of Gandaki Province, Prakas Raj Sharma.
The Ministry of Social Development has allocated Rs 15.5 million for this project.
These mobile hospitals will have a well-equipped ambulance with GPS fitted in it. Such ambulances will have one MBBS graduate doctor, nurse and health assistant will be compulsorily deployed.
According to a study of the World Health Organization, of those untimely killed in road accidents in Nepal, half of them were reported dead in lack of timely treatment.
