A special report has been prepared on the possible impact, risk and the ways to address them in the scenario of increase in global temperature from 1.5 degree Celsius to 2 degrees Celsius.
The 48th plenary session of the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) held in Songdo city of South Korea from October 1 to 5 has prepared the report, the Ministry of Forest and Environment stated.
The report is prepared with the inputs from various experts and it includes topics including rise in the sea level due to global warming, the receding of snow deposit in the North Polar region, the effects of temperature rise in the highland region of the Earth, the effects on biodiversity and allied risks and impacts and on how to address these issues.
Ministry spokesman Dr Sindhu Prasad Dhungana said that the report basically dwells on common understanding regarding the rise in global temperature by 1.5 degree Celsius, the prediction regarding climate change, the possible impacts and risks of climate change.
Likewise, other topics covered by the report include the ways of reducing carbon emission to address the global warming and the sustainable development goals and strengthening the world-wide efforts in the context of poverty reduction.
The 21st conference of state parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Paris in 2015 had requested the IPCCC to prepare a report on the impact of global warming. The IPCCC prepared the report in this connection.
This report will be presented for discussion in the 24th conference of the state parties to the UNFCCC to be held in Katowice, Poland in December 2018.
Dhungana said Nepal has submitted its views on the report along with its recommendations in writing.
At the program, National Planning Commission (NPC) member Dr Krishna Prasad Oli, Ministry secretary Dr Bishwanath Oli and Director General of the Department of Forest and Soil Conservation Dr. Ram Prasad Lamsal had participated in the 48th plenary of IPCC from Nepal.
