Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader and former prime minister Jhalanath Khanal has said that he is still in the NCP.
Speaking to Setopati on Monday, Khanal said that he had not left the party and was still a member of the NCP.
“I have not left the party. I am still in the NCP. I launched the Socialist Awakening Campaign while remaining in the NCP,” he said. “Many other colleagues are in different parties and have joined this campaign while continuing to remain in their respective parties. Therefore, I have not left the party.”
Khanal participated in a gathering of the Socialist Awakening Campaign on Monday.
He also said that he had no intention of leaving the party.
“I will not leave the party. I became a party member in 1969, so why would I leave the Communist Party? I will never leave it,” he said.
According to Khanal, the Socialist Awakening Campaign will play a role in bringing the NCP together.
“The aim is to eliminate the right-wing opportunism that has become dominant in the communist movement, advance a revolutionary course of action, policies, and principles, and unite communists to establish socialism with Nepali characteristics,” he said.
