Gandaki province Chief Minister and Nepali Congress central member Surendra Raj Pandey has announced his candidacy for the post of vice-president at the Nepali Congress’s 15th general convention.
Announcing his candidacy, Pandey said that he decided to contest for the vice-presidency with the aim of making the party more united, stronger, and in line with the times.
Stating that the need to unite the party unity and build a stronger organization has been repeatedly raised both within and outside the party, he said that his priority would be to bring leaders and workers from all levels and generations together through dialogue, cooperation, and a shared purpose.
Pandey has served as a central member of the Nepali Congress three times and has been a party member for more than 45 years.
He said that continued engagement with the younger generation and a youth-friendly working style would form the foundation of his political journey ahead.
“We must move forward by creating a new foundation through cooperation among yesterday’s experience, today’s energy, and tomorrow’s journey,” he said.
Noting that he is currently serving as chief minister of Gandaki province as a Nepali Congress member, Pandey said that he has conducted the provincial government by embracing the party’s values, principles, and democratic ideals, while making good governance, transparency, and accountability the core foundations of his administration.
Pledging to use the experience he has gained from running both the party organization and the government for the benefit of the Nepali Congress in the days ahead, he said that he would prioritize good governance, transparency, accountability, impartiality, organizational strengthening, clarity of thought, and unity within the organization.
Pandey said that he considers the suggestions, ideas, dialogue, and cooperation emerging during the general convention to be important foundations of his future political journey. He also expressed confidence that he would be elected vice-president with the support and cooperation of all Nepali Congress general convention representatives, party members, well-wishers, and supporters.
The Nepali Congress has proposed having four vice-presidents, including one senior vice-president.
