The Finance Committee of the Federal Parliament has agreed to reduce the terms of office of the governor, deputy governors, and board members of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) to three years.
The committee reached the agreement during clause-wise discussions on the Nepal Rastra Bank Act Amendment Bill at its meeting on Thursday.
The committee also agreed to a provision allowing the government to extend their terms by an additional two years if deemed necessary.
Currently, the governor, deputy governors, and board members of NRB serve five-year terms.
The draft amendment to the Nepal Rastra Bank Act had proposed allowing their terms to be extended once.
The revised draft, including the provision approved by the Finance Committee, will now be sent back to the Federal Parliament.
The provision will come into effect as law only after it is approved by the Federal Parliament and authenticated by the president.
