Former acting president of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, is also set to participate in the national gathering being organized by the party’s non-establishment faction.
The gathering will be held in Sukedhara, Kathmandu, from August 14 to 16.
Leaders from the non-establishment faction have said that the event will be chaired by former general secretary Shashank Koirala, who is also the coordinator of the national gathering organizing committee, with former party president and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba as the chief guest.
Deuba is scheduled to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport around noon on Thursday.
Koirala visited Khadka at his residence in Golfutar on Wednesday and held discussions with him.
During the meeting, Khadka said that he stood for party unity. He said that he would participate if the gathering was being organized for party unity and if the party would not split.
Leader Ram Hari Khatiwada, who is familiar with the discussions, confirmed to Setopati that former acting president Khadka will attend the national gathering.
Khadka had not visited the contact office opened by the non-establishment faction in Chundevi recently.
“Not just him, even we have not gone to the contact office, but we will participate in the national gathering along with Purna dai,” Khatiwada said. “We are in favor of party unity and will participate in the gathering organized for party unity. During his conversation with Shashank Koirala this morning, too, he said that he would attend the gathering.”
The non-establishment faction, which did not participate in the special general convention held in January, is organizing the national gathering after holding provincial-level gatherings.
Leader Shekhar Koirala is also set to attend the event.
