Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala is set to attend the national gathering being organized by the party’s non-establishment faction.
According to information circulated to journalists by Koirala’s secretariat, he is scheduled to participate in the gathering.
“Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala will attend the inaugural ceremony of the gathering scheduled for August 14. Since it is not a gathering aimed at splitting the party, Koirala will participate in the gathering and appeal for party unity,” said Koirala’s personal secretary, Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya.
The Nepali Congress held a special general convention in January. The faction led by the-party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Koirala did not participate in the event.
Deuba and party leader Purna Bahadur Khadka later filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the special general convention. The Supreme Court dismissed the petition and upheld the special general convention.
After Deuba and Khadka again approached the court against the ruling, the Supreme Court recently granted permission for a review of the case.
Koirala, meanwhile, has been attending some events organized by the Deuba faction, while skipping others.
