The Gandaki province government has enacted a law allowing the cultivation of cannabis.
The Bill to Regulate and Utilize Cannabis Cultivation for Medicinal and Industrial Purposes has been passed by the Gandaki Provincial Assembly and authenticated by the province chief.
The provincial assembly initially passed the bill on July 9 and forwarded it to the province chief for authentication on July 14.
However, the province chief returned the bill to the provincial assembly for reconsideration on July 24.
On July 31, the provincial assembly passed the bill again without any amendments and sent it back to the province chief for authentication. Subsequently, the province chief authenticated the bill on August 3.
The Gandaki government is led by Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress.
