The Janamat Party held a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Monday, demanding the implementation of rights and autonomy for local governments.
Participating party leaders, cadres, and supporters displayed placards featuring slogans such as "Congress-Communists deceived us," "Balen, don't deceive us," "Fulfill your promise to grant autonomy," and "Give rights to local governments."
The demonstrators called for the full implementation of the rights granted to local levels by the Constitution, in line with the spirit of the federal democratic republic. They also demanded that local governments be provided with the necessary resources and decision-making authority, and that commitments made to the public be fulfilled.
The participants accused various political parties of failing to implement their election manifestos and urged the government to take the strengthening of local autonomy and accountable governance seriously.
During the peaceful demonstration held at Maitighar Mandala, the demonstrators urged the government not to curtail the rights of local governments and to ensure the effective implementation of federalism.
The Janamat Party warned that it would announce further protest programs if the relevant authorities continue to ignore its demand for a more effective federal structure with powerful local governments.
