A special ceremony was held on Friday at Tundikhel in Kathmandu on the occasion of Republic Day.
The government has been celebrating Republic Day every year on Jestha 15 according to the Nepali calendar by organizing a special ceremony.
President Ram Chandra Paudel, Vice-president Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, ministers, and high-ranking government officials attended the Republic Day celebrations, which began on Friday morning.
President Paudel addressed this year's special ceremony.
In previous years, it was customary for the prime minister to address the Republic Day ceremony.
This time, however, the government sent a formal letter requesting the president to deliver the address, stating that the president is the symbol of the republic.
During the ceremony held on Friday, various municipalities of the Kathmandu Valley showcased cultural tableaux at Tundikhel. Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force also presented military parades and cultural performances. Additionally, flower petals were showered from an army helicopter.
On Jestha 15, 2065 BS (May 28, 2008), the first Constituent Assembly abolished the monarchy and declared a federal democratic republican system of governance in Nepal.
Since then, the government has been celebrating Republic Day every year in a grand manner.
The government has also declared a public holiday on Friday to mark the occasion.
