Rishi Kattel, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), has been arrested.
He was taken into custody on Wednesday by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office on the charge of engaging in activities aimed at disrupting the election.
According to Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki, spokesperson for the crime investigation office, Kattel was arrested from Kirtipur on Wednesday.
He has been handed over to the District Police Range, Range, for further action.
Dharmendra Bastola, general secretary of the CPN (Majority), has also been arrested on the same charge of attempting to disrupt the election.
SP Karki said that Bastola was arrested on Tuesday.
Along with Bastola, CPN (Majority) Kavre in-charge Bishnu Prasad Timalsina and another leader, SP Shah, have also been arrested.
All of them have been sent to the District Police Range for further action.
