Four former prime ministers (PM) are contesting the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election.
CPN-UML Chairman and former PM KP Sharma Oli is contesting from Jhapa-5. Similarly, Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal will file nominations from Rukum East, and Co-coordinator of the same party and former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal from Rautahat-1.
Similarly, Patron of Progressive Democratic Party and former PM Baburam Bhattarai will contest from Gorkha-2.
Oli was elected from Jhapa-5, Dahal from Gorkha-2, and Nepal were elected from Rautahat-1 in the last HoR election held in 2022. Bhattarai had supported NCP Coordinator Dahal in that election.
Former President of Nepali Congress and former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, who has continuously been elected from Dadeldhura in all the parliamentary elections since restoration of democracy in 1990, is not running in this election. He is out of the election due to the circumstances arising from the party's special general convention.
Nominations for all 165 seats in the first-past-the-post electoral system are being filed across the country on Tuesday.
