Balen Shah, the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has resigned from his position.
Mayor Shah submitted his resignation on Sunday afternoon, effective immediately. He handed his resignation letter to Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol.
Shah’s resignation comes as he prepares to contest the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
Following his resignation, Shah is scheduled to visit the central office of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on Sunday itself. The RSP has appointed him as a senior leader of the party and has officially projected him as the party’s prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections.
