CPN-UML Senior Vice-chairman Ishwar Pokharel visited the party's central office in Chyasal on Monday and registered a separate document.
Pokharel and other leaders registered the document after meeting General Secretary Shankar Pokharel. The non-establishment faction is preparing to hold discussions on the document at the party’s 11th general convention, which begins on December 13.
While receiving the document, General Secretary Pokharel remarked that it could have been submitted at a secretariat meeting instead.
“It could have been submitted at a secretariat level meeting as well,” General Secretary Pokharel said.
There was also criticism that the document was brought to the party only after it had already been published in the media.
Vice-chairman Surendra Pandey said that the document was registered with the party in accordance with the established procedure.
Ishwar Pokharel is preparing to contest for the chairmanship at the UML general convention, while the current Chairman, KP Sharma Oli, is also seeking reelection.
After registering the document, Senior Vice-chairman Pokharel said that it was submitted to ensure that the issues they have raised are included in the document to be presented by the party at the general convention.
“The party chairman was already informed about this matter. It was not convenient to go there, so we submitted it directly to the party office,” he said.
In the document, Senior Vice-chairman Pokharel has mentioned that although the party had already established rules regarding two terms for leadership and a 70-year age limit, these rules have been violated. He states that such actions will create problems within the party.
