The amendment proposal lodged by Socialist Party Nepal lawmaker Sarita Giri against the Constitution amendment bill brought to implement the new map is set to be rejected.
Sources close to Speaker Agni Sapkota confide that he will not table the amendment proposal lodged by Giri. The proposal will not enter the process for decision without it being tabled.
Giri in her amendment proposal has stated that Nepal does not have sources and evidence to establish that the territory of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipu Lekh belongs to Nepal.
Speaker Sapkota stepping on clauses 112(b and c) House of Representatives (HoR) regulations is preparing to reject the proposal. Any amendment proposal should not be against the inherent principles of the bill, and should not be unclear and meaningless, according to the clauses. "The claim that there is no source or evidence in this way seems meaningless," the sources close to Sapkota said. "Her proposal will not be tabled in the House."
There will be no voting on the amendment proposal as a result.
The House, therefore, will only vote on the Constitution amendment bill today.
The bill was endorsed unanimously in principle by the House. It is not clear whether Giri will vote in support of or against the bill during the voting. She has not withdrawn the amendment proposal despite her party warning her of action.
