Socialist Party Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) have applied with the Election Commission for registration of the new unified party.
RJP Spokesperson Keshav Jha told Setopati that the agreement letter to unify the two parties has been submitted at 11:16 Thursday morning. "We have applied along with the agreement letter. We have been issued the registration number 1388. We will submit other documents after the end of lockdown," Jha added.
Upendra Yadav of Socialist Party and Presidium Coordinator of RJP Sharad Singh Bhandari signed on the application submitted to the Election Commission.
Socialist Party hastily announced unification with RJP late Wednesday night to prevent the split after becoming aware of the plan of seven lawmakers to split Socialist Party.
The new party will be named Janata Samajwadi and will use the flag of Socialist Party and election symbol of RJP, umbrella. Mahantha Thakur will be the top ranked leader.
