Socialist Party Nepal Chairman Baburam Bhattarai has lamented intra-party factionalism of ruling CPN about the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
"It is not a good thing that there is factional conflict about MCC instead of arguing on it through a national perspective," Bhattarai said speaking in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Tuesday. "There should be policy of serious discussion on such issues."
Ruling CPN had hotly debated MCC during the recent standing committee meeting with the erstwhile Maoists and those from Madhav Kumar Nepal faction opposing it saying it should only be passed if it becomes clear that it is not part of the Indo-Pacific Strategy floated by America.
The US embassy in Kathmandu later issued a 10-point statement clarifying that the MCC is not part of military affairs.
The press statement, which it said was in response to a large number of queries from Nepali citizens, politicians, and members of the media about the MCC, claimed that every Nepali government since 2012 has been in favor of the MCC and that there is no military component to the compact.
Bhattarai also pointed that there are petty discussions in the House instead of serious issues.
Congratulating newly elected Speaker Agni Sapkota, he reminded that the House belongs to the opposition. "The House belongs to the opposition and not just because Daman Nath Dhungana said so. We can see live broadcast of House proceedings of even other countries now. The opposition should get a preference in the House," he opined.
He stressed on the need to complete the remaining works of the peace process soon. He also urged for resolution of the issue of Resham Chaudhary taking it as a political issue.
