Province 3 will be named Bagmati and Hetauda will be the provincial capital.
The name and capital have been confirmed after the parliamentary party meeting of CPN in the province on Friday took the decision to that regard.
Secretariat meeting of the party on December 29 had decided to name the province Bagmati and make Hetauda of Makwanpur the capital. Provincial assembly member of CPN Bijay Subedi told Setopati that the parliamentary party meeting endorsed the secretariat decision.
"There are some different opinions. But decision was taken to name the province Bagmati and make Hetauda the capital," Subedi revealed. "A meeting of the provincial assembly will be called soon and that meeting will take decision on the name and capital."
The majority of CPN lawmakers in the province had opposed the secretariat decision calling it impractical and unconstitutional.
They expressed dissatisfaction with Hetauda being made the capital with party chairmen KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and some lawmakers even threatened to reject the party decision.
They contended that Hetauda will be far away from most parts of the province and claim Kavre will be the most appropriate pick for capital on all accounts when Kathmandu Valley cannot be picked as one as it borders eight of the 13 districts in the province.
CPN has two-third majority in the 110-strong provincial assembly with 80 seats.
