Former secretary Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has been appointed as chief election commissioner (CEC).
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari appointed Thapaliya, who was unanimously endorsed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Wednesday, as the CEC on Friday.
The Constitutional Council on March 25 had recommended the then secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration Thapaliya for the post of CEC.
