Five bodies were found along different riverbanks in Pyuthan district on Thursday morning.
At around 7:30 a.m., the body of an approximately 13-year-old boy was found on the bank of the Madi River at Judapata in Swargadwari Municipality-9.
After that, the upper body of a man, with the portion below the torso missing, was found on the bank of the Madi River at Kimichaur in Swargadwari-3.
According to police, the body of a woman was also found on the bank of the Madi River at Gothibang in Swargadwari-4.
Similarly, at around 9:30 a.m., the body of another woman was found on the bank of the Lungri River at Saroja in Swargadwari-5. The body was missing the skull and the portion of the left leg below the knee.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Narahari Adhikari, chief of the District Police Office, said that after 10 a.m., another man’s body was found on a riverbank at Arthaus in Mandavi Rural Municipality-5.
The identities of all five deceased are yet to be established.
DSP Adhikari said that the bodies found in various rivers in Pyuthan may have been swept downstream by floods following a landslide in Thabang, Rolpa.
“We are investigating whether these are people who were swept away by floods following the landslide in Thabang,” he said. “Otherwise, there have been no reports of missing people or floods and landslides in Pyuthan.”
Police said that investigations are underway into the bodies found at different locations.
