A probe committee formed to investigate the death of Shree Krishna BK in police custody at the Khurkot Area Police Office in Sindhuli has recommended departmental action against two police personnel, including an inspector.
The probe committee, led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dinesh Acharya from the National Police Academy, made the recommendation in its report.
According to DIG Avi Narayan Kafle, spokesperson for Nepal Police headquarters, the committee submitted its report on May 12.
“The report we received has been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Further investigation is ongoing,” Kafle said.
According to sources, the report recommends departmental action against Inspector Basanta Bhujel of the Khurkot Area Police Office and another police officer who was on duty in the detention cell on the day of the incident.
The 23-year-old BK, a resident of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-3, Sindhuli, was found dead in the toilet of the detention facility at the police office on the evening of April 20.
He had been taken into custody on April 16 by a police team deployed from the Satdobato Police Circle and later transferred to Sindhuli.
Police said a complaint had been filed against him accusing him of raping a girl.
However, BK’s family claims that he and the girl had been in a relationship for two years, and that he had married the girl and brought her home on April 11.
