At least 20 people were killed and one injured in a jeep accident in Rolpa on Thursday afternoon.
Police Inspector Sunil Thapa Nepali, spokesperson for the District Police Office, said that 20 bodies were recovered at the accident site during the search and rescue operation.
According to him, 32-year-old Samir Kami of Sisne Rural Municipality-5, Rukum East, was injured in the accident.
He sustained injuries to his left leg, forehead, and left eye. His condition is reported to be stable. He is currently able to speak and receiving treatment at the Adharbhut Jaljala Hospital in Thawang, Rolpa.
The jeep (Lu 1 Ja 4167) was driven by Bed Bahadur BK of Takura, Sisne Rural Municipality-5.
The vehicle plunged nearly 800 meters down a cliff at Salyap, Thabang Rural Municipality-1, around 2:45 p.m.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Bir Bishwakarma, chief of Rolpa Police, said that rescue operations were hindered by the difficult geographical terrain and continuous rainfall at the accident site.
The victims were traveling to Jaljala in Rolpa to attend a major religious fair held on the occasion of Baisakh Purnima.
