The historic Ghantaghar in Kathmandu is currently undergoing renovation.
Originally built in 1894 during the premiership of Bir Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, the clock tower was severely damaged in the devastating earthquake of 1934 and was subsequently rebuilt.
More recently, the structure suffered damage during the 2015 earthquake.
Since the Ghantaghar had fallen into disrepair due to earthquake impacts and general wear over time, it is currently undergoing restoration.
The Department of Archaeology and the National Reconstruction Authority have developed a detailed project report (DPR) and are overseeing the work.
Currently, the reconstruction of Ghantaghar is taking place alongside the restoration of the adjacent Tri-Chandra College.
