The 13th National Dress and Topi Day is being celebrated on Thursday by different youth organizations with various events.
Youth groups began celebrating this day 13 years ago under the slogan "Nepali Topi: Our Identity." Since 2013, the day is being observed every year to promote and establish traditional attire – such as the Daura Suruwal and Topi for men, and Gunyu Cholo for women – among the younger generation as symbols of Nepali identity.
On this occasion, many people post photos wearing national dress on social media. The tradition of celebrating National Dress Day on January 1 is credited with contributing significantly to the resurgence and preservation of national dress.
The campaign was launched spontaneously by youth activists after the formal designation of national dress was removed in the past.
To mark the day, special events are being held across the capital. In the Basantapur area of Kathmandu, young men and women gathered wearing national costumes and Dhaka Topis to celebrate the occasion.
