Devotees thronged temples dedicated to Lord Ganesh to mark the Ganesh Chaturthi festival on Wednesday.
The festival is celebrated every year on Bhadra Shukla Chaturthi, or the fourth day of the bright half of the month of Bhadra, according to the Hindu calendar. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Ganesh was born on this day in the Satya Yug.
On Ganesh Chaturthi, special worship is performed at Ganesh temples across the country, including at Ashok Vinayak, Chandra Vinayak, Surya Vinayak, Kamal Vinayak, and Kamaladi Ganesh in the Kathmandu Valley.
As the son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesh is worshiped first in any religious ritual.
The fast of Haritalika Teej is broken and a fast dedicated to Ganesh is observed on this day.
According to the Ganesh Puran, devotees who observe a fast on the third day of the bright half of Bhadra with prayers for a happy married life and peace also worship Ganesh on the fourth day, praying that no obstacles come in their lives.
