Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inaugurated the flyover at Gwarko Chowk in Lalitpur.
The long-awaited flyover, which was recently completed after repeated deadline extensions, was inaugurated by PM Oli on Friday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, cut the ribbon, while PM Oli unveiled the plaque installed on a nearby divider.
The public, who had endured hardships during the construction of the flyover, will now be relieved from traffic congestion.
The Quality Research and Development Center (QRDC) under the Department of Roads, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, had begun the construction of the much-anticipated flyover project three years ago.
It had signed a contract with the Ashish Samanantar Religare JV construction company on February 24, 2022, with an agreement to complete the work within two years.
The initial deadline for the project’s completion was set for February 23, 2024. However, when the construction was not completed on time, the deadline was extended for the first time to June 2024.
When the construction still could not be completed by the revised deadline, the deadline was extended again to December 23, 2024. As issues surfaced in the project, construction work was halted for about a month in December and January.
Pradeep Bhandari, spokesperson for the QRDC, said that the contractor company was fined about Rs 14.7 million as it failed to complete the work on time despite repeated deadline extensions.
