The registration of candidacies is underway for the Nepali Congress’s 15th general convention.
Nomination forms are being distributed and candidates are filling them out at the Rastriya Sabha Griha (City Hall) on Exhibition Road, Kathmandu. Candidacies will be registered on Tuesday itself.
A total of 7,114 general convention representatives will participate in the 15th general convention.
The election committee has established an office at the City Hall to oversee the distribution and registration of nomination forms.
According to Raju Katuwal, member secretary of the election committee, the distribution of nomination forms for candidates began at 10 a.m.
The list of general convention representatives has been posted on the inner wall of the City Hall.
Candidacy registration will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Nepali Congress has increased the size of its central working committee from 167 to 297 members.
The party approved a revised statute on Monday, increasing the number of office-bearers from 14 to 26.
Under the new arrangement, one senior vice-president and one woman vice-president have been added, bringing the total number of vice-presidents to four. The number of general secretaries has been increased to three, with one position mandatorily reserved for a woman.
Two additional joint general secretary positions have been created under the open category, bringing the total number of joint general secretaries to 11. The party has also increased the number of spokespersons. The number of co-spokespersons may be increased further as needed, according to the party.
At the 14th general convention, the Nepali Congress had a 167-member central working committee and 14 office-bearers.
The party said that the size of the central working committee and the number of office-bearers have been increased this time in line with the growth in the number of representatives and greater emphasis on inclusive participation.
