Law students held a protest march on Thursday against the decision to dissolve Free Student Unions and student organizations.
The government, under its governance reform agenda, has proposed removing student organizations from schools and universities. It also plans to replace Free Student Unions at universities with a Student Council or a “Voice of Students.”
The Cabinet approved this reform agenda on March 27. The government is preparing to implement the decision to remove student organizations from schools and universities within 60 days.
However, student organizations and political groups have opposed this decision.
Students from Nepal Law Campus also staged a march on Thursday to protest the government’s move. Criticizing the government’s decision to remove student organizations even by deploying police units, the students argued that universities need professors more than police.
